I am a faculty member at the Fakultät für Mathematik of the Universität Wien working in combinatorics and as such am the "head" of the Institut's combinatorics group, which is a member of the Special Research Programme "Algorithmic and Enumerative Combinatorics", financed by the Austrian Science Foundation FWF. In this framework, the joint seminar Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Diskrete Mathematik" takes place every tuesday together with colleagues from the University of Technology of Vienna.
For a list of my students (and, partially, their theses) see here.

Together with Mireille Bousquet-Mélou, Michael Drmota, Peter Paule, and Michael Singer, I am organising the programme "Algorithmic and Enumerative Combinatorics", which will take place at the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematics and Physics, October 16 - November 24, 2017.

Two further major events are the Workshop on "Elliptic Hypergeometric Functions in Combinatorics, Integrable Systems and Physics", March 20 - 24, 2017, also at the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematics and Physics, which I organise jointly with Masatoshi Noumi, Simon Ruijsenaars, Michael J. Schlosser, Vyacheslav P. Spiridonov, and S. Ole Warnaar, and the Conference EuroComb 2017, August 28 - September 1, 2017, at the Vienna University of Technology, which I jointly organise with Michael Drmota and Mihyun Kang.

My research interests are all sort of enumerative combinatorics and algebraic combinatorics. I have strong side interests in (basic) hypergeometric series and number theory.

If you share (at least some of) my interests then feel free to browse through the list of my papers. You will find abstracts for all my papers, and also dvi-files, gzipped postscript or PDF files for all of them. If you are interested, you may also look at transparencies and videos of talks (including popular ones) that I have given.

My interest in (basic) hypergeometric series led me to develop two Mathematica packages, HYP and HYPQ. The package HYP allows you to manipulate and identify binomial series and hypergeometric series, the package HYPQ allows you to manipulate and identify q-binomial series and basic hypergeometric series. Click on it to receive more information and/or download the relevant Mathematica files to your computer. (There is an almost equivalent Maple package by Bruno Gauthier: HYPERG.)

If you need to guess sequences of numbers very often, then my Mathematica "guessing machine" RATE (which has now become part of Neil Sloane's Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences) may be useful for you. The Maple implementation by François Béraud and Bruno Gauthier is called GUESS. A Maxima implementation, DEVINE, written by Martin Rubey, is also available. The Axiom guessing package Guess, also written by Martin Rubey, is even more powerful as its range of detected formulas is larger.

I am one of the three editors-in-chief of the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire (you find many papers of the old (printed) issues of the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire there). I am also editor for aequationes mathematicae, Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science, Journal of Combinatorial Theory - Series A, Monatshefte für Mathematik, Confluentes Mathematici, European Journal of Combinatorics, Annales de l’Institut Henri Poincaré D: Combinatorics, Physics and their Interactions and for Moscow Journal of Combinatorics and Number Theory.

For your (and my) convenience, here is a pointer to the Electronic Journal of Combinatorics (click here for the mirror site at the EMS), the first fully electronic journal, containing a lot of useful information for the combinatorialist.

For the musically inclined (warning: "classical" music!) I am able to offer some samples from my previous life as a pianist.

Finally, here are links that I use frequently.
