Advice

Since our research is centered around Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry and Discrete Mathematics, with special emphasis on the areas listed above, our aim is to accept only those students with a strong interest in at least one of these research areas. The applicant is asked to make this interest clear in her or his application, for example, in the Statement of Purpose.

Instructions for applying

Each applicant is responsible for submitting a complete application. In particular, each applicant is responsible for gathering the required documents such as university diplomas and letters of recommendation. We do not contact applicants regarding missing application materials.

Admission to the University of Vienna Doctoral Program in Algebra is a two-step process. The first step in this process is the submission of all application materials noted above. At that point, the Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry and discrete Mathematics faculty will begin to evaluate the file and determine if the prospective student moves on to the second step of the process. If the initial application is evaluated favorably, an interview will be scheduled in spring 2011. The student will be notified about this initial phase of the application process by April 15, 2011. Acceptance to the program will be decided shortly after the interview, and the student will be notified immediately.
