Abstract: We relate spinor fields and the Dirac operator of a spin manifold to corresponding data on its boundary. We then establish an optimal extrinsic lower bound for the first non-negative eigenvalue of the hypersurface Dirac Operator. Its limiting-case is charactarized by the existence of special spinor fields which could be used to prove some classical rigidity results for hypersurfaces.
