The classical 2D Ising model, matchgates, and mutual information

Johannes Wilms (University of Vienna, Faculty of Physics)

Abstract:

The classical 2D Ising model is one of the standard models of statistical physics and has been studied extensively, but there is still a lot to discover. I will first show how it is considered "exactly solvable", using the FKT theorem, Pfaffians, and the relatively new concepts of matchgates and holographic algorithms. Mutual information and area laws, in particular in the vicinity of the phase transition, can then be studied.
