11:00 - 11:50: Nicolas Monod (Geneva): Some topics on amenable actions, I
Abstract: In this series of lectures, we shall study some aspects of the classical question of the existence of invariant means on a set under a group action. We shall restrict ourselves to the "naked" setting where no topology or measure-theory is involved. We shall on the one hand address classical results, giving for instance a short proof of Tarski's theorem on paradoxical decompositions. On the other hand, we present a few new aspects that have been historically overlooked, regarding e.g. amenable actions of non-amenable groups. We will also present a few problems that are simple to formulate but appear to be unsolved.

15.00 - 15.50: Gerhard Racher (Salzburg): On the flatness of full group C*-algebras
Abstract: Considering the full group C*-algebra, C*(G), of a locally compact group G as a module over the Banach algebra L1(G), we show that C*(G) is flat if and only if G is amenable. As opposed to C*-exactness, flatness here means exactness with respect to the projective tensor product of Banach modules. In the same vein, we have: C*(G) is projective if and only if G is compact.
16:10 - 17:00: Benjamin Weiss (Jerusalem): On rigidity and mixing for actions of amenable groups
