The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, in conjunction with Boeing, is offering an IMA Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowship. IMA Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowships are designed to prepare mathematicians for research careers in industry or involving industrial interaction. The postdoctoral fellow will be working in a multidisciplinary group at Boeing on design optimization. Ideally, candidates have experience in related optimization topics, such as global optimization, nonsmooth optimization, multiobjective optimization, response surface modeling, "system of systems" optimization, or optimization under uncertainty. The fellowship will run two years starting September 5, 2006. It is funded jointly by the IMA and Boeing, and the successful candidate will devote 50% effort to his or her own research and the IMA program and 50% effort working with industrial scientists. Industrial postdoctoral fellows receive a salary of $50,000 annually, and a travel allowance. Documentation of completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree in mathematics or a related area is required by the start of the appointment and within the last three years. Candidates will need to prove their status as US Citizens or permanent residents at the start of the appopintment.
