SLC43 --- How to get there -> You should arrive at the Schoental monastery on Sunday, March 7, 1999, in the afternoon or (not too late) in the evening. The reception desk will be open until 19:00; if you arrive later then registration will be on Monday morning, but you will nevertheless get the key for your room. If you are supposed to arrive later than 22:00, say, please give us a note or call. Not all of the participants preferring a single room will be hosted at the Bildungshaus, some will be accomodated at the "Pension Zeller", about 200 m away. We will show you upon arrival how to get there. But all the participants will have all their meals together at the Bildungshaus. A buffet dinner will be served, starting at 18:00, in the "Abt-Knittel-Keller", the wine tavern in the basement of the main building. -> If you come by CAR, here are some recommendations how to get there: -- Buy a good road map of the region!!! (1:200 000 or better) If you arrive from the South, Southwest (France), or West: -- take the autobahn A81 Heilbronn-Wuerzburg from Heilbronn northbound (direction Wuerzburg) until the Moeckmuehl exit (this is exit #7), then follow the indicators (immediately after the exit) towards Widdern-Jagsthausen-Schoental (do not go to Moeckmuehl!); -- descend into the Jagst valley until you arrive at the village of Widdern, then go up the Jagst valley (eastbound), pass through the small town of Jagsthausen (watch the famous castle Goetzenburg!), pass by Berlichingen (but do not enter!), and continue the main road until you arrive at the Schoental monastery. The total distance from exit #7 is about 20 km. If you arrive from the Northwest or North or Northeast: -- take the autobahn A81 from Wuerzburg (direction Heilbronn-Stuttgart) southbound until the Osterburken exit (this is exit #6), then follow the indicators (immediately after the exit) towards Widdern-Jagsthausen-Schoental (do not go to Osterburken!) until you arrive at the village of Oberkessach. There take the road that leads to Schoental. If you miss it, continue up to Widdern, then proceed as decribed above. The total distance from exit #6 is about 15 km. If you arrive from the East: -- take autobahn A6 westbound from Nuernberg (direction Heilbronn (westbound) until exit Kupferzell. Take the main road B19 to Kuenzelsau (to the North) and pass through this town. You are now in the Kocher valley, not in the Jagst valley! Stay on B19. -- Shorthly after Kuenzelsau the B19 turns sharply to the right (North) and leaves the valley. Do not follow this main road B19 any more (this would mean a long detour!) Instead, stay in the Kocher valley (westbound) and go via Ingelfingen, Niedernhall, to the village of Fortenberg. -- There you will arrive at a junction with an indicator (to the right) that leads you directly to Schoental. If you miss this opportunity, continue to Sindringen, take the road to Jagsthausen, and then go up the Jagst valley to Schoental. This route takes about 1 hour from the Kupferzell exit. Alternatives are possible, e.g., either leaving the A6 at Oehringen and going from there via Ohrnberg-Sindringen towards Jagsthausen, or continuing to the autobahn crossroad Weinsberger Kreuz, close to Heilbronn, and from there taking the A61 northbound up to the Moeckmuehl exit (exit #7, as described above). PLEASE: after leaving the autobahn, take your time and drive cautiously! The landscape is beautiful, the roads are narrow and bend a lot. If you miss the right valley and don't realize that immediately, long detours may be necessary. They have very good wines in this region. Don't stop for wine tasting prior to arrival - these wines are also available at the monastery after having arrived safely. PARKING: once you arrive at the Schoental monastery, you need not leave your car outside. The "Main Entrance" is in fact a narrow gate, like a towns gate (only one car can pass at a time). Proceed through this gate and continue straightforward until you come to a parking for customers and guests at the very end of the main road of the monastery complex. The church and the main building are to the left of this road. The "Bildungshaus", that is where the Seminar takes place, is located in the main building. -> If you come by TRAIN, here is how to get there: Your first goal should be arriving at the station Moeckmuehl, located at the railroad between Heilbronn and Wuerzburg. There is a local bus line that leads to Schoental, but on Sunday there are only few buses running. Buses leave directly in front of the Moeckmuehl train station. At Schoental monastery (Kloster Schoental) you get off the bus and walk right into the monastery. The Bildungshaus is located in the main building, on your left, just after the church. There are essentially five possibilities on March 7: Moeckmuehl (station) : 10:20 12:17 14:20 15:55 17:50 Schoental (monastery): 10:35 12:34 14:50 16:22 18:17 and I urge you to catch one of these! There are no later buses on Sunday! For train connections, either from Stuttgart-Heilbronn or from Wuerzburg to Moeckmuehl, you may check the train schedule of the German railways, available on the internet at http://bahn.hafas.de -> What if you arrive late at Moeckmuehl or get lost somewhere in the region? At Moeckmuehl (or from any other place) you may take a taxi, which is quite expensive. Distance from Moeckmuehl to Schoental is about 20 km and it costs about DM 40. The local taxi service at Moeckmuehl is Taxi Straesser, Moeckmuehl, 06298-5067 Alternatively, you may call us at the Schoental monastery; until about 19:00 the reception desk will be open, telephone is 07943-894-0. Later you may call us directly at the Abt-Knittel-Keller of the monastery, telephone is 07943-894-309, and we may send out an experienced driver to pick you up. Have a safe trip!
