## Title: On the mathematical framework in general relativity

### Abstract:

Can we describe our universe with one equation? What would it look like?
When Einstein invented his general theory of relativity, he used geometry
to describe gravitation. More precisely, the curvature of spacetime is
directly related to the energy and momentum of matter (or vacuum) using
the Einstein equations.

We first review the notion of curvature in differential geometry and state
the Einstein equations, a system of nonlinear partial differential
equations. In the second part of the talk we focus on the initial value
problem in general relativity and discuss recent progress on global
aspects.
