Before, I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Vienna (Jan 2019 -
Jun 2020) and a postdoctoral fellow at the
University of Waterloo (Canada) from May 2017 to December 2018. From November to
December 2017, I was additionally a programme fellow at the Institut Mittag-Leffler in Stockholm (Sweden).
I completed my doctorate at the University
of St Andrews (Scotland) in April 2017 under the
supervision of Kenneth Falconer and
Mike Todd.
From February to March 2016 I was a postgraduate programme fellow at the
ICERM,
Brown University (USA).
Research Interests: My research focusses on
random fractal geometry, branching processes, symbolic dynamics,
dimension theory, and their interplay with number theory.
I have worked with stochastic self-similarity, gauge functions for stochastic
attractors, and study the fine structure of sets and measures. In particular, I have
studied the Assouad dimensions of random processes and determined phase transitions
on their small scale behaviour.
Most recently, I have looked into the Brownian continuum tree and Brownian map and
applied dimension theory to study quasi-symmetric embeddings.
Other Random Interests: I am an active long distance sailor (mostly single-handed) and have sailed
most of the British, German, Dutch, Belgian and French Atlantic coast with several North Sea crossings.
I am a radio amateur with full UK license and am a SCUBA dive instructor and keen technical diver.
Other trivia. My Erdős number is 3: Troscheit—K.
Hare*—Shallit—Erdős. (* valid route with both Kathryn and Kevin
Hare)
My Einstein number is 5: Troscheit—Neukirch—Kiessling—Lebowitz—Bergmann—Einstein.
And my Bacon number is 4*: Troscheit—Lustig—Brennicke—Gampu—Bacon (* sadly uncredited)
