Abstract.
Multivariate basic hypergeometric
series occur in the study of certain statistics
on the symmetric group. New identities on those
functions as well as their combinatorial
interpretations are here obtained by means of
a classical calculation on the skew Schur functions.
This article that further appeared in Bull. Soc. Math. France,
vol. 13, 1985, p. 3-22, was the first mathematical paper ever
published in France in a traditional journal that had been
TeX-typeset by their authors. (Read the footnote on the first
